Academics
Students at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte love the âproximity to the financial district in Charlotte,â which is a âfinancial hubâ with âFortune 500 and other reputable companies throughout the region.â âThe flexibility of the program allows you to customize your concentrations, so they are relative to your strengths and what you would like to do in a future career,â remarks one happy student. There is a âfocus on banking, as there are a lot of BofA, Wells Fargo, and TIAA-CREF students,â and the school has a particularly strong finance faculty. âThe work piles up and is demanding,â one student says, âhowever, Iâm getting used to the pace, and I feel that the extra work I put in is appreciated and noticed.â UNC Charlotte âis known for its diverse background and for its high expectation of students, which helps set up a two-way benchmark establishing goals for both the business school and the students.â
Students are very happy with the âvery hands onâ and âextremely flexibleâ administration. There is a âstrong commitment from administrators to help students succeed at scholastic and career goals,â and âadministrators will bend over backwards to help you in any way they can,â such as âconstantly making you aware of internships and available jobs.â The administration is particularly quick at âanswering questions or fixing problems.â âI have not had an issue yet that they havenât fixed quickly,â one student says. âOverall they are friendly, responsive, and knowledgeable.â âThe business school staff is very helpful and always available.â Students do feel the administration should do more for students outside of normal weekday work hours. There are ânot many âafter-workhoursâ networking opportunitiesâ and not enough ânight/weekend class offerings for graduate studies.â
Students are also proud of their professors, who âreally care about their studentsâ and whose âdoors are always open.â âMy professors for the most part seem engaged, very intelligent, and reasonably demanding. The professors donât want cookie-cutter answers and encourage depth in responses.â âA majority of the professors are top-notch,â and the ones who arenât are âsubject matter experts at worst.â Although most professors âare really great,â others âmiss the mark and just teach the syllabus.â âLike any academic institution, itâs bureaucratic, but not so much.â One student explains the school âis accessible, and you can always be pointed in the right direction.â
